Liverpool players appear to have been given a day off this week after facing Manchester City on Saturday.
The Reds battled to a creditable 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend, with a number of players struggling following last week’s international break. And after earning themselves a point, it seems that Jurgen Klopp has rewarded them with a little rest.
We conclude that having watched a video posted from RB Leipzig on X late last night. They shared a clip of a seemingly surprise visit from Liverpool No.8 and former Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
It’s a good little video, actually. With the camera on manager Marco Rose, surprise and joy sweeps across his face as he catches sight of Szoboszlai lurking at the other side of the room.
He immediately heads over to his former midfielder, with the caption “Our coach is amazed at this surprise visit…” just about summing things up.
Later on, Leipzig also posted a clip of Szoboszlai meeting up with on-loan Liverpool forward Fabio Carvalho. A couple of wholesome moments from a player who clearly made a big impression in Germany.
Szoboszlai pays Leipzig a visit
You can always tell a lot about a player’s character by how he’s received by his former clubs.
MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES
Liverpool supporters of a certain persuasion may perhaps be irked by Szoboszlai jetting off back to see his old team. There could maybe be a feeling of betrayal towards the group he’s currently a part of.
But we don’t see it that way at all. Instead, we see a player who is loved by those who have worked with him in the past.
There’s no bitterness or jealousy about the visit. It seems that Dom is simply dropping in on a group who he possibly didn’t get a chance to say a proper goodbye to.
It does come during a busy schedule for Liverpool, but if Jurgen has given the boys a day or two off before Thursday’s visit of LASK, then there’s no issue at all.
You’d imagine that Szoboszlai’s rendezvous would have been rubber-stamped by Klopp anyway. Rose is actually a former player of the Liverpool’s boss’, so it will all have been above board.
Hopefully the little reminder of a former home can help to kickstart Dom into action again this season. After a whirlwind start the £60m Hungarian has been a little quite of late.
After also meeting up with another former teammate – Erling Haaland – on Saturday, hopefully he’s in a good place as the Reds head into a crucial period.
