Cleveland Browns to Bring Explosive $3.2 Million RB in Intriguing Free Agency Rumor

The Cleveland Browns have plenty of tough decisions to make when it comes to their running back room. It’s still up in the air whether Nick Chubb can still be an effective runner after he tore both his ACL and MCL during their Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers last season.

Vikings will release RB Alexander Mattison - NBC Sports

It’s this uncertainty that saw them being connected to multiple running backs throughout the season. While the Browns have kept their cards close to their chest, it wouldn’t be surprising if they do pull off a free-agent signing of a talented running back.

The latest rusher that’s been connected to the Dawg Pound is easily one of the most intriguing prospects in the 2024 free agency class.

Free agency rumor has the Cleveland Browns signing Alexander Mattison

Minnesota Vikings fans who watched Alexander Mattison play last season may have varying opinions about him. Some may think that he has a bright future with a team that would be willing to give him a chance. Others may think that his numbers are empty and deceiving.

However, it’s undeniable that he’s still a capable running back who can put together impressive runs. Irie Harris of cleveland.com suggested that he will be the one who can take over for Nick Chubb if the injury takes away from his running ability.

Harris wrote about Mattison’s performance last season for the Minnesota Vikings:

Ahead of 2023, Mattison received his chance to start for Minnesota with the departure of Cook, and he took advantage of the opportunity. Starting in 13 of his 16 games played, Mattison finished 32nd league wide in total rushing yards (700) on 180 carries for 3.9 yards per carry.

Mattison didn’t score a rushing touchdown. Instead, he recorded three receiving touchdowns.

It’s interesting to see the Boise State product score three receiving touchdowns but fail to score any rushing touchdowns. These numbers may make some Cleveland Browns fans think that he’s not worth chasing.

However, it’s undeniable that there is a market for a running back of his abilities in the league. He can provide effective cover if the team decides to stick with Chubb for 2024.
