The San Francisco Giants could be interested in signing former Chicago Cubs slugger.

For the services of former MVP Cody Bellinger, the Chicago Cubs reportedly have two teams that they will need to compete with. Of those two teams, the San Francisco Giants are viewed as a real suitor to land Bellinger, despite the addition of Jung-Hoo Lee.

The Giants don’t have much offensively, and while they need help on the mound, signing the slugger could be a priority, too.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported the news about San Francisco continuing to show interest.

“Two of Bellinger’s early suitors already have added outfielders, potentially taking themselves out of the running. The Yankees, who have added Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham via trades, are no longer in the mix for Bellinger. Yet the Giants, who signed Jung Hoo Lee, could still make a run at him.”

If the Cubs want to re-sign Bellinger, they must be active in doing so. They can’t continue to wait and hope that they land Yoshinobu Yamamoto or make a trade for a star-level player. Bellinger was a huge piece in their lineup last season and hasn’t been replaced yet this offseason.

The Giants outfield may seem stacked to some, but Feinsand notes that they wouldn’t mind adding Bellinger due to his versatility.

“Even with Lee, Mitch Haniger and Michael Conforto penciled in as their starting outfield, the Giants could still use Bellinger, who could rotate between first base and the outfield, allowing manager Bob Melvin to use multiple players in the DH spot.”

Bellinger grew up on the West Coast and could be interested in returning if Chicago doesn’t offer the money that he’s looking for.
