What a difference a year can make. At this point last campaign, NY Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka was beloved in East Rutherford and he even landed some head coach interviews during the offseason. It’s safe to say the party is over for him.

The Giants are 5-11 on the season and they’re underdogs taking on the Eagles on Sunday. The offense has been awful to watch for most of the campaign, with Kafka shouldering a lot of the blame. On Thursday, Kafka was asked about returning to the squad next year, but he basically refused to comment on that. It kind of feels like he has one foot out the door, no?

Mike Kafka and the Giants could be headed for a split sooner rather than later

It’s really unknown what’s going to end up happening with all three of Brian Daboll’s coordinators. Kafka is one guy to keep an eye on, but the same can be said for Wink Martindale on defense and special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey.

Martindale has said he wants to come back too, as you can see in the clip above. Mcgaughey isn’t paying attention to the outside noise either, as he’s still under contract for one more season. However, all three of those guys have disappointed at times in 2023 – Martindale is someone, though, who Giants fans don’t want to see go anywhere.

Kafka and McGaughey? Well, those are two different stories. Kafka has made some brutal mistakes with his play-calling this year and countless Big Blue supporters have been calling for him to be fired for a while now. In the loss to the Rams, people couldn’t believe he called a run play on 2nd-and-10 shortly before Mason Crosby missed a 54-yard field goal to put NY ahead late in the action.

The replies to that post are filled with people bashing Kafka, as he said it’s a play he’d like to have back. You don’t say? Daboll is a brilliant offensive mind and it might be time for him to just take over the offense as a whole. Kafka could still be back in ’24, but his latest comments aren’t convincing at all.
