Aaron Rodgers offers telling comment about Zach Wilson’s future

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers hinted at one beneficial course of action for his backup Zach Wilson on Monday.

Rodgers was asked about Wilson’s future with the Jets after the former No. 2 pick once again failed to convince during the 2023 season. Rodgers said he would love to work with Wilson for another year, but that he wants Wilson to do what is best for him, which might involve moving on.

Aaron Rodgers not fully healed, wants to play for Jets beyond 2024

“I love Zach and I want what’s best for Zach, and if he wants to be here and that’s what’s best for him, then obviously I would love to have that relationship for another year,” Rodgers said. “But I want what’s best for him and where he wants to be, and sometimes a change of scenery, as I know, can be a breath of fresh air, and it’s good to be able to have a new start sometimes.”

Rodgers seems to be aware of the reality: Wilson probably is never going to succeed in New York. After the last two years, the organization has lost confidence in him, as have the fans. That is why the expectation is that they find a trade partner this offseason.

Rodgers expects to be healthy next year, but either way, the Jets appear determined to avoid going into another season with Wilson as their only viable backup plan. That is probably the best outcome for all involved.
