The 2024 NFL Draft will be here before we know it and the next step of the process is set to begin next week at NFL Scouting Combine.
The Chicago Bears are in control of the first round with two picks in the Top-10 selections and all the talk has been surrounding their first overall pick and quarterback Justin Fields. However, there’s been little talk about what the Bears should do after the first night of the draft.
The Bears next pick after round one won’t be until the 75th overall selection in the third round. The Bears currently did not hold a selection in the second round, although that could change in the coming days ahead. As it stands, that’s a long stretch between picks and the Bears should hope a certain prospect falls into their lap to fill a major needed that recently opened up on defense.
Bears Pre-Combine Draft Fit, 3rd Round Pick: S Kamren Kinchens
Following the released of veteran safety and former Pro Bowler Eddie Jackson, the Bears are back in the safety market heading into the 2024 Combine. Currently, the Bears only have Jaquan Brisker, Quindell Johnson, Jaylon Jones, and Douglas Coleman under contract at the position in 2024.
The team needs another legitimate starter to roam the secondary with Brisker on the starting defense and Miami prospect Kamren Kinchens would be the perfect player to fill the role left vacant at the position.
There seems to be no consensus on where Kinchens could potentially land in the draft, but his current stock trend bodes well for the Bears’ hopes to snagging him in the third round. After getting mocked into the late-first/early-second rounds early in the process, some experts are now having Kinchens going in the third round.
Here’s Kinchens’ current draft stock trends thanks to the Grinding the Mocks database that compiles notable mock drafts from top draft analysts.

Kinchens would be the perfect versatile safety to be deployed all around the field by head coach Matt Eberflus. Adding that to Brisker’s versatility and play-making skills would give the Bears a dominant duo at the position.

Here’s what our own Rob Gregson had to say about Kinchens on his prospect evaluation:
Kinchens is a blend of size, speed and power that you can’t put into a box when it comes to his label. He struggles in some technical areas and could benefit from better eye discipline but his physical traits and ball skills make him a versatile playmaker that defensive coordinators will love to deploy. -Kamren Kinchens Draft Profile
If Kinchens slides into the third-round, general manager Ryan Poles will have to do everything he can to make sure he ends up in Chicago.
