Alan Shearer has lavished praise on Liverpool right-back Conor Bradley following his man-of-the-match display in the 4-1 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday night, commending his attacking and defensive abilities.

The Northern Ireland international was handed his second-ever Premier League start against the Blues, and he did not disappoint, impressing and performing way beyond anyone could have predicted.

The Liverpool full-back scored once and assisted another two against Chelsea, and Shearer was blown away by what he saw from the 20-year-old.

“Wow, we were there Gary when he made his debut when he came on for the last 15 minutes at Arsenal,” the Premier League record goalscorer said on the latest edition of the Rest is Football podcast.

“And you thought then, I mean, the way the game was going and the belief that Klopp had to put him on.

“But not only that, he was brilliant in that game, but last night, he looked absolutely sensational, didn’t he? Defensively, attacking-wise. He took his goal incredibly well despite nearly falling over, and the cross. What a man-of-the-match performance that was.”

Bradley assisted a goal on his first-ever Premier League start against Bournemouth last month before assisting another two in the 5-2 FA Cup victory against Norwich City, and it is safe to say Liverpool have got a player with huge potential in their ranks.

The Reds defender joined them from Irish League Premiership club Dungannon Swifts in 2019, but he had been training at Liverpool’s Belfast Centre of Excellence since he was nine years old, and scouts from Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea among others regularly came to watch him play.

However, his heart was always set on the Merseyside club, and his emergence could see manager Jurgen Klopp deploy Trent Alexander-Arnold more regularly in midfield until the end of the campaign.

Bradley has played just a handful of games for Liverpool, but he is already looking like the real deal, and he could soon become a regular in the starting XI even with everyone fit if he keeps on performing well.
