The Chicago Bears are well poised to pick no. 1 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, thanks to their trade with the Carolina Panthers last offseason. However, with Justin Fields in the fold and the top candidates in the draft class being quarterbacks, Chicago will have a decision to make when it comes to their pick.
Will the Bears stick with Fields and trade down like they did in the previous draft? Or will they opt to start fresh and choose a new quarterback to lead their rebuild while gaining some more assets in the process?
Well, in the latest NFL Mock Draft proposed by Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports, it’s the latter. Trapasso has the Bears trading Fields to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a couple of Day 2 picks.
In the said proposal, the Raiders land Fields and send the no. 74 overall pick in the 2024 draft, as well as a 2025 third-round pick that has the condition of becoming a second-round pick if Fields plays at least 75 percent of the snaps in 2024.
Of course, in the process, the Bears draft USC Trojans standout and former Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams to be their quarterback of the future.
Should the Chicago Bears, Las Vegas Raiders Do the Justin Field Trade?
Justin Fields is growing to be one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the NFL, so it might be insane to think that the Chicago Bears would ever consider trading him.
However, if the Bears decide that enough is enough and make significant changes on the coaching staff and front office, then it would make sense for them to deal Fields away. The 2024 draft is the perfect opportunity to decide that given the plethora of QB talents that the class boasts.
Drafting a talent like Caleb Williams and building around him could be a better option for a Bears team that has only made the playoffs twice since 2011.
As for the Las Vegas Raiders, it’s really hard to say no to a quarterback with high ceiling like Fields. Sure, he hasn’t had much success since arriving in Chicago in 2021, but a new environment and an offensive scheme that will take advantage of his dual-threat ability could further unlock him and allow him to thrive.
It remains to be seen what the Bears will actually do with the likely top pick coming their way, though all eyes will surely be on them as they weigh their options in the upcoming offseason.
