Chiefs news: Isaiah Buggs signs to practice squad

The Kansas City Chiefs have decided to add another player to the roster up front along the defensive front before the postseason begins with the signing of Isaiah Buggs.

According to NFL reporter Tom Pelissero, Buggs will begin with the Chiefs’ practice squad heading into Week 18.

Detroit Lions v Green Bay Packers

The Chiefs have added a nose tackle to the practice squad before the postseason.
Buggs, who is 27 years old, gives the Chiefs a big body up front along the defensive interior at 330 lbs.

So far this season, the Chiefs have had a difficult time finding quality help in a run-stuffing role behind or beside Derrick Nnadi. The Chiefs like Turk Wharton in the mix but have tried out Matt Dickerson for most of the year after trading for Neil Farrell from the Las Vegas Raiders but never playing him.

It’s also important to note the Chiefs drafted Keondre Coburn out of the University of Texas in the sixth round but lost him to a waiver claim to the Tennessee Titans earlier this year.

At this point, the Chiefs have veteran Mike Pennel alongside Buggs, Farrell, and Dickerson, who returned to the practice squad after hitting waivers last week.

Buggs entered the NFL as a sixth-round choice for the Pittsburgh Steelers out of the University of Alabama back in the 2019 NFL Draft. He lasted three years as a rotational lineman for Mike Tomlin’s defense before being released. Buggs spent the last two seasons with the Detroit Lions and made 16 starts in that span, but he was released earlier this week.
