Controversy in the Kingdom is something that we’ve mostly forgotten about over the course of the past month. When you win back-to-back Super Bowls, it’s tough to recall the things that have gone wrong over the past couple of seasons. The Chiefs are a dynasty. Who cares if things aren’t perfect all the time?
Well, who better than Tyrann Mathieu to conjure up memories of Chiefs Kingdom social media drama past?

Oh, Honey Badger. Funny you should bring that up. For those of you who are new to the Kingdom, long before Justin Reid was clapping back at the Blogfather himself, there was another (more) disgruntled Chiefs safety taking up the cause of riling up a fanbase on social media when times weren’t the best around 1 Arrowhead Drive. One specific instance that he may have been referring to was well documented not only on this site but across the Kingdom when Mathieu took to – of all places – the Instagram comments section to tell us how he felt about Chiefs’ fans.

Toxic, huh? Now, to be fair, there are certainly some fans (you know who you are) who are more actively poking and prodding at players online on a regular basis. How do I feel about that? I’ll just say I’d find it comical if those people were forced to throw some pads on and take on Tyrann Mathieu or any other former or current Chief in a casual little Oklahoma Drill. But I digress, it’s still not a good look for a pro athlete to be engaging fans negatively no matter how irrational the social media hate it.
Mathieu’s X (formerly Twitter) account is littered with instances of tweet and replies to fans – some bad, but mostly positive. Some more chirps to Chiefs fans during his time here are below.

Does he need to show more control? Maybe, but who am I to tell a grown man how to handle his online business? Just because it’s not my style doesn’t mean it’s not for everyone. The good Tyrann Mathieu did for the Chiefs on the field and Kansas City off the field far outweighed any conflicts he found himself in on social media.
Mathieu has been nominated for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award multiple times and won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Charity Challenge in 2021 as a member of the Chiefs for his charitable causes in Kansas City, Houston, and New Orleans including the Tyrann Mathieu Tech Zone, Tyrann’s Backpack Giveaway, Tyrann’s Turkeys, Tyrann’s Christmas Blessing, and Heart of a Badger Youth Camp.
Simply put, Tyrann Mathieu is a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve. Whether you like that or not, it is who he is. That attitude and tenacity have brought him success on the football field, but have also brought him some conflict in comments sections and on Twitter. Who cares, he was great for the Chiefs, and by all accounts, he’s a great guy, so why not have a little fun with some of his slip-ups in the past? Good on Tyrann for being able to laugh at his own expense. If you can’t make fun of yourself, who can you make fun of?
