A trade proposal sends the Chicago Cubs one of the best hitters in baseball from the New York Mets.

There have been rumors throughout the offseason that the Chicago Cubs are interested in landing a current New York Mets slugger.

Given the lack of moves the Cubs made to better their offense during the winter, they could look to make a trade or two during the season to improve their lineup.

Of the potential names for Chicago is Mets star Pete Alonso.

It was reported earlier in the offseason that they had an interest in Alonso. His ability to hit 40-plus home runs in any given year could help as they look to make the playoffs in 2024.

Alonso will also hit free agency at the end of the season and New York doesn’t look to be a team that can compete with the top half of the National League.

There might not be a better time for them to move Alonso than now.

In a deal proposed by Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints, the Cubs would receive Alonso for Cade Horton, Michael Busch, and Jordan Wicks.

While Alonso would give Chicago everything and more, this would be a deal they should make if he was willing to sign an extension after the trade.

Moving three of the five best prospects in the organization for a first baseman on an expiring contract doesn’t make much sense for the Cubs.

If Alonso had multiple years on his contract, this would be a no-brainer for the front office.

That, however, isn’t the case.

Alonso could be the bat this team is missing but there’s no reason to overspend given they can land him in free agency the following offseason.
