Fallout Rotten Tomatoes Score Has The Last Of Us-Level Debut

The Rotten Tomatoes score has been revealed for the Prime Video series Fallout, and it rivals fellow video game adaptation series The Last of Us.

SUMMARY

  •  The Fallout TV series debuts with 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, close to The Last of Us’ score.
  •  Both series are high-profile video game adaptations in post-apocalyptic worlds.
  • Fallout may not quite match The Last of Us in acclaim, but early reviews are very positive.

The FalloutTV series has received a Rotten Tomatoes score, and things are looking good for the series. Released via Prime Video, Fallout is a TV series adaptation set in the world of the popular dystopian video games of the same name. Fallout features a leading cast including Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, Zach Cherry, Moises Arias, and Leslie Uggams, and debuts the entire season 1 on April 10.

Upon its release, Fallout has now received its Rotten Tomatoes score. At the time of writing, Fallout has a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. This score is subject to change, as the series has just been released and there are only 29 reviews at the time of writing. The series also does not yet have an audience score.

How Fallout’s Reception Compares to The Last of Us

& How It Compares To Other Recent Video Game Adaptations

Fallout’s initial Rotten Tomatoes score can be compared to that of another key video game adaptation, The Last of Us. The Last of Us season 1 scored a near-perfect 96% on the aggregate review site. Its audience approval score was similarly impressive, at 89%. This puts Fallout at only 3% behind The Last of Us, which is impressive given how revered its predecessor was.

Recent Video Game Adaptations RT Score Audience Score
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 69% 96%
Gran Turismo 65% 98%
The Super Mario Bros. Movie 59% 95%
Mortal Kombat (2021) 55% 86%
Arcane: League Of Legends 100% 96%
The Last Of Us 96% 89%
Halo 80% 61%

Throughout Fallout’s production, the series was warranting comparisons to The Last of Us before it was even released. This is principally due to both series being video game adaptations set in a post-apocalyptic universe. That said, the nature of their video game adaptation is very different. While The Last of Us is a third-person action-adventure game that crafted the narrative story on which the series is based, the Fallout show exists within the continuity of the game universe.

Still, Fallout and The Last of Uswill get wrapped up in the same zeitgeist with both being high-profile video game adaptations. The Last of Us is a tough act to follow, as it has an extremely high production quality and is an acting tour-de-force. The Last of Us was nominated for numerous Primetime and Creative Arts Emmys, winning awards for Outstanding Guest Actress for Storm Reid and Outstanding Guest Actor for Nick Offerman.

Even trying to fill these massive shows, Fallout’s early reviews start the series on a positive note. Fallout seems unlikely to get the same universal recognition as The Last of Us, but has received as close to unanimity as possible with its 93% score. According to the chart above, along with The Last of Us, Fallout is one of the most acclaimed video game adaptations in the last few years. Hopefully, the audience score will follow suit as viewers get a chance to watch Falloutseason 1.
