Former Pro Bowl QB Calls for Broncos’ Russell Wilson to Join Patriots

Could we see Russell Wilson opt to team up with a new regime in New England?

It’s been a tumultuous start to the NFL offseason when it comes to forecasting the future of Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson. With the writing on the wall for what’s to happen next with his time in the Mile High, speculation has remained consistent for those trying to find out where the 12-year league veteran will land next.

While many teams have popped up as suitors that could use Wilson’s services next season, none have exactly stuck out as a perfect fit. However, former Pro Bowl quarterback Robert Griffin III entered the conversation with an interesting proposal for who should be the one to take on Russ.

RG3 went to his Twitter/X account to voice that the New England Patriots should ultimately bring in Russell Wilson to be the one leading the charge for them at the quarterback position.

The Patriots are likely to investigate bringing in talent to their quarterback room after their ugly season of being led by an unorganized combination of Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe. If the Broncos’ plan of cutting ties with Wilson goes through, New England could arise as a potential destination for the 36-year-old.

New England also sits at the third-overall selection for this spring’s NFL Draft, creating the possibility of drafting a young quarterback as opposed to looking toward the open market. However, considering the fiery ending 2020 first-rounder Mac Jones experienced this past season, the Patriots could prioritize experience and a veteran leader overtaking another shot at developing their next man under center.

When it comes to projecting where Wilson will end up next, another AFC team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, has also come up as a potential spot to host him. Recent betting odds pin them as the current favorites to acquire his services, but that doesn’t mean an outside team like the Patriots doesn’t have a shot to bring him in.

Wilson finished his 2023 campaign improving from a year ago, posting 3,070 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight picks in 15 games. Despite steps forward, all signs point to Sean Payton going in a different direction, whether it be adding another guy through the draft or free agency.

For the Broncos to avoid paying an extra $30 million, the expectation is for Russell Wilson to get cut before his guarantee date of March 17. Continue to stay posted to see what happens with the 9x Pro Bowl quarterback heading into next season.
