The New York Giants are looking for a new defensive coordinator. Don ‘Wink’ Martindale is out. They’ll take their time, but interviews are telling.
The Giants recently interviewed Baltimore Ravens secondary coach Dennard Wilson for the DC opening.
Wilson is in his first season with Baltimore. He and Ravens defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald assembled a unit that led the league in points allowed. They’re arguably the top defense in football.
MacDonald is getting head coaching interviews around the NFL. He’s a popular HC candidate – for good reason.
The secondary coach deserves some credit as well, though. Wilson was with the Philadelphia Eagles prior to this season.
The Ravens recorded the best pass defense DVOA (-29.3%) in the NFL. They also allowed the least amount of passing touchdowns in the league (17).
Final DVOA ranks…
1. Ravens: 45.5%
2. 49ers: 39.4%
3. Bills: 24.1%
4. Cowboys: 19.1%
5. Chiefs: 17.9%— David Lombardi (@LombardiHimself) January 8, 2024
The Eagles decision to let Dennard Wilson leave NovaCare looks so freaking bad
Ravens 2023 Stats:
Pass defense DVOA: -29.3% (Best in the NFL)
Yards per pass attempt: 5.8 (Best in the NFL)

Giants former DC Wink Martindale was the Ravens DC prior to joining New York. It would be an intriguing storyline if they grabbed another Baltimore coach to lead their defense.
