The New York Giants have already seen a major change on their coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Don ‘Wink’ Martindale is out. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka remains on staff, and he’s getting some rest elsewhere, too.
Kafka was named the head coach for the West team in the 2024 Shrine Bowl.
The Shrine Bowl game is built for NFL draft prospects. The matchup normally includes players that do not make it to the Senior Bowl. Some of the most valuable picks can come in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft, and the Shrine Bowl puts many of those prospects on a big stage.
Kafka’s connection to certain players could be important for the Giants in the draft process. Prospects value relationships with coaches and vice versa.

The East-West Shrine Bowl will be broadcast on NFL Network on Thursday, February 1st at 8 p.m. ET.
