Ian Wright left completely surprised by £130k-a-week Man City star last night

He’s only just realised something about him, just like many fans! 😂

Ian Wright has admitted he did not realise how fast Matheus Nunes is, as he analysed Manchester City’s win over Burnley last night on Match of the Day.

City beat the Clarets 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium to continue their fine start to 2024.

It was a perfect January for City, who finished the month with four wins out of four. Last night’s game with Burnley was very comfortable in the end.

Julian Alvarez helped himself to two goals on his 24th birthday, while Rodri also added another goal.

There was a late consolation for Burnley through Ameen Al-Dakhil, but all in all, it was a very comfortable evening for City.

And there was a great performance from Nunes, who left Ian Wright shocked on Match of the Day…

Nunes started for City last night, joining Rodri in the midfield, with Rico Lewis coming inside from right-back to support.

Arguably, it was the Portuguese star’s best display to date in a City shirt.

Nunes seemed to be full of confidence, and his early assist for Alvarez probably really helped him to thrive.

At times, Burnley just couldn’t get near him with his running and ball-carrying. Nunes regularly got away from his man, and took the ball from box-to-box.

He was hailed by Robbie Savage, who was commentating on the game for TNT Sports, with the pundit naming him player of the match.

Ian Wright was also impressed, and couldn’t quite believe how fast he is. He said on Match of the Day: “I was really impressed with Matheus Nunes. The movement off the ball, the pace. I didn’t realise the amount of pace he had. I knew he was quick, but he’s SO quick on certain occasions.”

Nunes is rapid and can be a huge weapon for Man City

Nunes was fantastic last night for City, and he is definitely now starting to find his feet at the Etihad.

Competition for places is tough, but he does look comfortable in the shirt now, having made a fairly lukewarm start.

The £130,000-a-week star is definitely a very interesting and exciting player to watch. That ball-carrying ability is absolutely superb, and has the potential to unlock defences.

His pace should come as no surprise now – last term for Wolves, he was clocked as the fastest midfielder in the Premier League.

The boy is quick, and he really does have the potential to be a big weapon for City, especially if he can start to add goals to his game.
