Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh had just two words for reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Tuesday when discussing the NFL return of his brother Jim, who’s the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.
“Buckle up,” he joked with reporters at the NFL Combine, via MLive.com.
The elder Harbaugh was of course poking fun at his little brother, who has a reputation for being one of the more intense and competitive head coaches to roam an NFL sideline.
The 2024 season will mark Jim’s return to the NFL after a nine-year hiatus. In four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, he compiled a 44-19-1 record and led the team to three straight NFC Championship games.
“Every day I’m there in the morning, coming into his office and you feel the energy,” Chargers GM Joe Horitz said. “Our players feel it. Our coaching staff feels it. He walks into the draft room where we’re in meetings and scouts feel it. It’s exciting.”
The Harbaugh brothers have been spending quite a bit of time together in the leadup to the NFL Combine as each prepare their respective draft boards and strategies.

John has been with the Ravens since 2008, so this offseason is nothing new for him. Jim, however, will be adjusting to life in the NFL again after leading the Michigan Wolverines to their first national championship since 1997.
Instead of going on recruiting visits and atoning for alleged NCAA violations, Jim now gets to navigate NFL free agency, collaborate with the Chargers’ scouting department and evaluate many of the very players he coached and coached against the last few years.
