Kimmich and £60m star in three deals Man City can still agree on deadline day

HITC Football takes a look at three transfers Manchester City could agree on deadline day for the winter 2024 window.

It has been a quiet transfer window but Manchester City may still be active in the mid-season market, so here are three transfers Pep Guardiola could agree on deadline day.The Etihad Stadium squad have hardly done deals over the winter 2024 market with Claudio Echeverri being their sole signing. Manchester City cast one eye on their future with the 18-year-old’s arrival from River Plate. He will also stay at the Argentine club for the rest of 2024.

Manchester City have also only sanctioned a handful of outbound transfers, including Kalvin Phillips joining West Ham United on loan. The 28-year-old moved to London Stadium for the rest of the term in search of more game time, having struggled for minutes under Guardiola.

A lack of minutes so far this season could see further players target deadline day deals away from Manchester City. Phillips had only appeared for 89 minutes across four Premier League appearances before joining West Ham. Yet he was in each of Guardiola’s 20 available teams.

So, with deadline day for the winter 2024 window started, here are three potential transfers that Manchester City can still agree before the market slams shut. Guardiola may still add to his side, or afford further stars on the fringes a chance to showcase their potential this term.

Manchester City are interested in Bayern Munich ace Joshua Kimmich

Manchester City can still strengthen Guardiola’s midfield in the winter transfer window with a deadline day deal to reunite with Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich. Reports by talkSPORT note the 28-year-old is on the Catalan coach’s radar, as well as earning interest at Liverpool.

Der FCB are reluctant to sell Kimmich but would consider his transfer for offers worth £40m. The German technician is only under contract in Bavaria until June 2025 and talks regarding a new deal are slow to progress. His form so far this term has also been below his standards.

Kimmich has been at the Allianz Arena since July 2015 and he has won everything there is to win with Bayern. The versatile 82-cap anchor lifted the Champions League in 2019/20 and is chasing a ninth Bundesliga crown. He has won the German top-flight every term in Munich.

Guardiola stood at the Allianz Arena helm through Kimmich’s first title-winning season with Bayern Munich. He also started the Rottweil native 15 times through 23 league appearances following outings as a centre-half and right-back. Now, they could reunite at Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City are interested in Leny Yoro’s transfer from LOSC Lille

Manchester City are among the teams to show an interest in the transfer of LOSC Lille talent Leny Yoro. According to Le10 Sport, the Citizens are fighting not only Manchester United and Liverpool for the 18-year-old but Paris Saint-Germain – plus Les Dogues’ sky-high price tag.

Lille have told PSG that Yoro will only leave the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in the winter market for €90m (£77m). But Les Parisiens will not force a deal at that price, so will shelve their interest until the summer. Yet they open a door for the English clubs, who have to pay €70m (£60m).

Les Dogues will accept a lower offer to grant Yoro’s transfer to Liverpool, Manchester City or Manchester United over PSG. Lille could even consider selling the France U21 prospect with the guarantee that he returns to the northern France club for, at least, another year on loan.

But Stade Pierre-Mauroy chiefs remain key to tie the centre-half, seen to be one of the most promising in his position, down with a new contract. It is unlikely that Yoro agrees to extend his contract past 2025. So, a bidding war awaits this summer that Manchester City can jump.

Sergio Gomez can target a last-ditch loan move away from the Etihad

Sergio Gomez started the winter 2024 transfer window by declaring his immediate future to Manchester City. But with deadline day now underway, the 23-year-old could reconsider his position at Etihad Stadium. He remained firmly on the fringes of Guardiola’s side in January.

Reports by TuttoMercatoWEB noted that Gomez spoke with Guardiola about his situation at the start of January. But they agreed he would spend the rest of this season at the club and offer cover on their left-hand flank. Yet a continued spot on the bench may tempt a re-think.

Gomez moved to Etihad Stadium during August 2022 after joining from RSC Anderlecht on a four-year contract. But the former Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund prospect is unlikely to accept a backup role forever. So, a deadline day loan transfer may suit all parties this winter.
