Knicks Coach Tom Thibodeau Has Major Praise For OG Anunoby’s Early Impact

Adding OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks has marked a significant upturn in the team’s performance. Acquired just before the New Year, Anunoby’s integration into the lineup has coincided with a four-game winning streak for the Knicks.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau has been impressed with Anunoby’s impact and attitude, noting his seamless fit into the team. Thibodeau, as reported by Stefan Bondy of The New York Post, commended Anunoby for his serious approach and constant hard work on the court.

“I think we have a good core that’s been together for a while now. So I think that can absorb people coming in, and then a guy like OG is very serious,” Thibodeau said. “He wants to do well, and I think his mind is open. He plays incredibly hard on every possession, so even if it’s not perfect right now, it’s still gonna be good.”

The coach highlighted Anunoby’s hustle, which has been a key contributor to his early success with the team. Thibodeau believes that as Anunoby continues to gel with the team, his scoring opportunities will increase, pointing out Anunoby’s knack for being in the right place at the right time on the court.

“Your hustle can make up for a lot,” Thibodeau said. “And that’s really what he’s doing. And each day, he’ll get better and better and guys are starting to figure him out, as well. So that takes a little bit of time. But help where you can hustle, be in passing lanes, get deflections, help out on the boards, play physical, run the floor, move without the ball. Those are things that he does great. And then as time goes on, he’ll find more places where he can get scoring opportunities, too.”

The Knicks made a significant trade to bring Anunoby on board, parting ways with RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley. Anunoby is also approaching free agency after this season, so the Knicks will seek to secure his services for the longer term. His presence on the team is a key factor in potentially advancing New York to the second round or further in the postseason.

Following their recent victory over the Washington Wizards, the Knicks hold a 21-15 record and are currently ranked eighth in the Eastern Conference. Anunoby’s addition appears to be a strategic move paying dividends for the team’s performance.
