Man Utd star was ‘fuming’ on bench while teammates collapsed against Wolves

It came close to going horribly wrong at Molineux.

Rasmus Hojlund admitted he was ‘fuming’ on the substitutes’ bench as Manchester United came close to throwing away victory against Wolves last night.

Erik ten Hag’s side produced arguably their most convincing performance of the season to date in the first 60 minutes at Molineux, and victory looked certain when Scott McTominay restored their two-goal advantage with 15 minutes remaining.

A frantic finale ensued, however, once Max Kilman prodded home with five minutes left, and Pedro Neto sent the home fans into ecstasy when he outwitted Andre Onana in the fifth minute of injury time with a shot that beat the United goalkeeper at his near post.

Hojund, who had earlier scored United’s second goal, was taken off during the closing stages and was left to stew as his teammates folded under mounting pressure.

Thankfully for Ten Hag, teenager Kobbie Mainoo came to the rescue with an outstanding solo goal to snatch victory in the seventh minute of injury time, but Hojlund confessed he was an uncomfortable spectator during what was an astonishing finale.

‘We need to sort them situations out better,’ said the Denmark international. ‘I was fuming on the bench of course.

‘We need to do better in this situation. We turn it on again but we are happy.’

On matchwinner Mainoo, meanwhile, he added:  ‘Ididn’t really get to see him in pre-season but everyone was saying he is an incredible talent.

‘He has a nice body type and he is mature already. He is very cam and also outside the pitch he is a nice and relaxed guy.

‘You can see he is composed. He is an incredible talent. I thought I was young but he is stepping up at the age of 18.

‘I don’t want to jinx anything but hopefully it can be a turning point. It’s a big win away and maybe we can get some wins going.

‘January was OK for us and now I hope we have a nice February. We take every game at a time and we go for everything we can win.

‘We want to win every game and go for the FA Cup and get as high in the table as we can. Hopefully we can get the Champions League.’
