Patrick Mahomes Steals the Limelight From Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers Transfer & Unmasks NFL’s Fickle Reality

A $62.5 million shift has dazzled other teams who are in search of a new head coach. Jim Harbaugh’s impressive résumé, with an SB appearance and a CFB National Championship, might have made other 10 teams with head coaching vacancies envious. However, Chris Canty was the one who adjusted the limelight on where it should be, the dizzying number of vacancies.

Prominent franchises have continued their rampage of snapping their ties with their head coaches. The Falcons fired Arthur Smith late Sunday night. On Monday, it was Ro Rivera’s turn to say goodbye to the Commanders. Meanwhile, Tennessee ended its contract with Mike Vrabel on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Pacific Northwest’s Pete Carroll transitioned to the role of an advisor. And the Black Monday witnessed three more firings Las Vegas Raiders firing Josh McDaniels, Carolina Panthers Frank Reich, and New England Patriots and Bill Belichick mutually parted ways. Amidst the frenzy, the only thing that has stayed constant since 6 years in the NFL is Patrick Mahomes, per ESPN’s guest.

Patrick Mahomes v. the NFL coaches

Mahomes’s decision to snub his senior year eligibility proved to be a rewarding risk as the Chiefs him in the first round, 10th overall pick. Since then, Mahomes has excelled in gridiron play calling, making 5 appearances in playoffs, all consecutively. So much so, that Mahomes’ longevity in the NFL is more than 11 head coaches, as stated by Chris Canty on Un Sports ESPN.

“The thing that drives this home with the Harbaugh news about how great Mahomes is. Think about all the coaches in the AFC West that have been hired and fired since he’s gotten in,” commented he. To further substantiate his point, he counted the number on his fingertips. “I mean there have been four with the Raiders. There have been four with the Broncos. There have been three with the Chargers.”, highlighting the number of how many head-coach changes the teams have gone through.

However, things went down in 2023 after a sour 5-9 start of the season, opening the door for Jim Harbaugh. “So that’s going to be the litmus test for Jim Harbaugh, but even more so for Justin Herbert,” believed Canty. Jim Harbaugh does not just have to prove himself, again, at the Chargers but also raise Justin Herbert to Mahomes level.
