Pep Guardiola says 23-year-old Man City player has been absolutely brilliant recently

“Unbelievable.” ⭐

Pep Guardiola has praised how Phil Foden has performed in recent weeks as an attacking midfielder.

Ahead of Manchester City’s upcoming clash against Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup (via Manchester Evening News journalist Joe Bray), the Spaniard was quizzed about whether the ‘Stockport Iniesta’ could hit the same heights as Kevin De Bruyne in the position one day.

In his last three starts in the Premier League, Phil Foden has registered three assists and a goal as a No.10.

Pep Guardiola says Phil Foden has been “unbelievable” in recent weeks

Recently, Micah Richards claimed that the £225,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man is playing “some of the best football of his career.”

Don Hutchison also praised the 23-year-old for how well he has replaced the injured Kevin De Bruyne as his side’s primary creator in the middle of the park.

Now, Pep Guardiola has lauded Phil Foden for his recent performances as well.

“He [Phil Foden] is a different player [to Kevin De Bruyne] but it’s true that in the final third and decisive moments, he has incredible impact,” “In the balls, in the passes is a lot. Phil is playing lately unbelievable in that position, in the threats. He feels comfortable”, he said, as quoted by Manchester Evening News journalist Joe Bray.

Pep Guardiola also gave an insight into whether Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne could play in tandem as a pair of attacking midfielders.

“In certain games, of course, they can play both together in that position, in the pockets, in the middle, close to the box. In certain other games for the stability, maybe not. We have to see day by day.”

If Phil Foden starts against Huddersfield, he should play in midfield

Pep Guardiola was fair to highlight how influential Phil Foden has been from a more central position than usual in his recent outings.

While one would assume the Catalan could rest a key player like Foden for Sunday’s contest against Huddersfield, in case he ends up starting, he should play in midfield once again.

Phil Foden is bang in form at the moment and to break the momentum of his displays by playing him out of position would not be advisable.

Foden has earned Guardiola’s trust as an attacking midfielder and as a result, he deserves to keep playing as one.
