Ravens’ Derrick Henry Signing Answered Team’s Most ‘High-Profile’ Offseason Question

The Baltimore Ravens signed Derrick Henry in free agency and in doing so, answered their most pressing question about the running back room.

The Baltimore Ravens had to sort out their running back room during free agency as Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins were set to walk out the door.

Derrick Henry: Ravens named ideal fit for Titans RB in free agency

Edwards and his team-leading 13 rushing touchdowns did so to the Los Angeles Chargers, while Dobbins is still a free agent, and it is unknown if he will return to Baltimore in 2024.

With the running back room in flux, the Ravens went about fixing it and did so as they signed Tennessee Titans star Derrick Henry. Now, the NFL’s best rushing attack got a serious upgrade, with the two-time rushing champ now calling Baltimore home.

ESPN’s Jamison Hensley says the Ravens have answered their biggest free agency question with Henry’s signing.

“The Ravens answered their most high-profile question in free agency by signing Henry,” Hensley wrote. “Baltimore had a major void at running back because Edwards and J.K. Dobbins were both free agents. The Ravens now team Henry, the NFL’s leading rusher since 2018, with Lamar Jackson, who has led all quarterbacks in rushing over the past six seasons.”

NFL Analysis

Henry comes to Baltimore off yet another 1,000+ rushing season as he also totaled 12 rushing touchdowns. For those who are worried about the wear and tear on his body, Henry showed in the last game of the regular season against the Jacksonville Jaguars that there’s still plenty left, rushing for 153 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.

Additionally, Henry had 69 fewer rushing attempts in 2023 than he did in 2022, so his body didn’t suffer the same physical toll as it usually does.

Now a member of the Ravens and their vaunted rushing attack, Henry will look to complement Lamar Jackson, Keaton Mitchell, Justice Hill, and J.K. Dobbins (if he returns).

What makes Henry’s move to Baltimore even better is that the Ravens were already the best rushing team in the NFL, and they just got a serious upgrade.

The Ravens had one big question hanging over their franchise this offseason at the running back position, and in one fell swoop, they answered it with authority as King Henry makes his way to the AFC North.
