RHOC’s Tanya Bardsley breaks down over the cost of living despite household income of £22k per WEEK

Tanya Bardsley broke down in tears live on Sky News over the cost of living on Monday, as she recalled her former cleaning job and being in a ‘dark place’ over her financial situation.

The Real Housewives Of Cheshire millionaire, 41, is married to professional footballer Phil Bardsley, 36, who rakes in £22,500 per week from Premier League club Burnley.

Speaking to Kay Burley, she recalled her poverty-stricken past before finding her big break as a model in the early 2000s.

It follows comments from safeguarding minister Rachel Maclean that people should ‘take on more hours’ at work or move to a ‘better paid job’ to protect themselves from cost of living surge.

Hitting back, Tanya said: ‘I was a single mum when I was a cleaner and I remember crying in the car park because I couldn’t afford to buy my daughter anything… it’s actually making me emotional thinking about it.

‘How can she actually say that? When I had the least money, I worked so many hours, so many hours, it’s making me emotional. It’s just she’s obviously not lived that life.’

'I was in such a dark place!' Tanya Bardsley broke down in tears over the cost of living despite having a household income of £22k per WEEK, during a Monday appearance on Sky News

Beginning to shed tears, a surprised Tanya said: ‘I don’t know why I’m crying. It’s just because I know so many people are going through it now.

‘When I went through that, when I was in such a dark place, I just think… “How dare she?” I’m really sorry, I’m really, really sorry.

‘It’s really important and when I was a single mum in that place, there was not the cost of living that there is now, it’s ridiculous, and I’m no Carol Vorderman but all the numbers aren’t adding up.

She said of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine: ‘The cost of living and energy prices were going up before the war but now there are all these millions for the weapons. Obviously, I’m with Ukraine.’

When asked what she would say to the minister, Tanya replied, ‘I’d want to bottle one. I’d want her to go and live that life, take the money off her, take her wages off her and go and make her get a job.’

She also appeared to contradict Boris Johnson’s demand that civil servants return to the office, saying those working from home in her department were ‘still delivering’ and not shirking.

Discussing the cost-of-living crisis on Sky News, she said: ‘I think what we need to focus on now is over the long-term.

‘We do have these short-term pressures on us that we’re all aware of. But over the long-term we need to have a plan to grow the economy and make sure that people are able to protect themselves better, whether that is by taking on more hours or moving to a better-paid job.

‘These are long-term actions but that is what we are focused on as a Government.’
