The Seattle Seahawks have an exciting future as one of the most talented defensive minds is taking over the team in Mike Macdonald. With such a coach taking over the team, it’s understandable that many resources are being allotted to making the defense an impregnable fortress in the NFL.
The Seahawks have reportedly made space for their salary cap by getting rid of an underperforming Jamal Adams to free up cap space.

Seattle Seahawks to possibly give Leonard Williams 3-year, $50-million deal
Pro Football Rumors’ Sam Robinson reported that the Seahawks are eager to give DE Leonard Williams a three-year extension to be one of the cornerstones of the Seahawks defense:
The Seahawks are in talks with Williams’ camp about a new deal for the pending free agent, GM John Schneider said Thursday during an interview with 710 ESPN Seattle (via The Athletic’s Michael-Shawn Dugar). The Seahawks acquired Williams from the Giants for second- and fifth-round picks at the deadline last year.
They could not apply the franchise tag to Williams as he was already tagged twice by the New York Giants when he played for them from 2021 until the first half of the 2023 season. Since Leonard is vital to Macdonald’s plans of rehashing the defense, they will definitely look to provide him with as much money as they could.
Leonard has been outstanding the Seahawks last season. While he only played 10 games for Seattle, he managed to notch 4.0 sacks, 24 solo tackles, nine TFLs, 11 QB hits, and one pass deflection. His performance was convincing enough for Macdonald to want to keep him in the team.

It’s interesting for the Seahawks to try and give Williams an extension after giving Daron Payne an extension of his own last year. However, the NFC West has talented QBs in Brock Purdy, Matthew Stafford, and Kyler Murray. If the Seattle pass rush can rattle them enough to make inaccurate passes, Williams’ contract extension will be more than worth it.
