The Bachelor: Not Choosing Maria Georgas For Bachelorette Proves The Show Doesn’t Care About Its Fans

The Bachelor season 28 had an incredible cast of women from which to choose the Bachelorette season 21 lead, and some fans were shocked when Jenn Tran was selected over their number one choice, the beloved fan favorite Maria Georgas. Maria, a 29-year-old executive assistant from Kleinburg, Ontario, Canada, became the heroine of the season when she persevered over her bullies, Sydney Gordon, Lea Cayanan, and Jess Edwards. She even forgave and hugged Sydney and Lea at “The Women Tell All,” despite their horrible treatment of her during the season.

The Bachelor: Maria Georgas Would Be A Better Bachelorette Than Daisy Kent (Is She Ready?)

Throughout The Bachelor season 28, Maria and Joey Graziadei had a fun and romantic relationship, but it was also rocky. Maria almost self-eliminated twice: once because of the drama with the other women, and the second time because it bothered her to know that Joey was still dating other women when she was about to bring him home for a hometown date. Joey eventually said goodbye to Maria after her hometown date because he had too many doubts about her to move forward. However, Bachelor fans had no doubt that Maria would make a fantastic Bachelorette, which proves that the producers don’t care about what the fans want.

The Bachelor Producers Disregard Fans’ Wishes

Although it’s possible that Maria might’ve been offered the lead of The Bachelorette season 21 and turned it down, this doesn’t negate the fact that the producers have ignored fans’ desires in the past. After Matt James’ ground-breaking season as the first Black Bachelor, fans wanted to see even more diversity in the franchise. However, the three consecutive Bachelors were white men (Clayton Echard, Zach Shallcross, and Joey Graziadei).

While there’s nothing wrong with casting white men as the Bachelor, the producers completely ignored fans’ wishes for another Black Bachelor or the first Asian American Bachelor. Their suggestions were The Bachelorette season 19 contestants Nate Mitchell or Ethan Kang or The Bachelorette season 20 star John Buresh. They’d have broken the mold for what the Bachelor usually looks like.

Similarly, fans wanted Maria to be the Bachelorette because she brought something completely different to the table. She’s outspoken and messy, but also loving and caring. She’s not the typical Bachelorette, but that’s exactly why fans love her so much and wanted her in the role. Instead, The Bachelorette producers finally gave viewers the Asian American lead they wanted in Jenn, but her announcement was overshadowed because fans were so shocked that it wasn’t Maria.

The Bachelor Producers Never Learn

The Bachelorette Season 21 Star Jenn Tran Announced As The Bachelorette

While it’s admirable that Jenn was cast, and she will be an extraordinary lead, the producers never learn from their past mistakes. It’s no coincidence that Joey’s season was one of the most talked about in years because fans wanted him cast as the Bachelor after he was the runner-up in Charity Lawson’s season. However, when Clayton and Zach were cast, their seasons were considered boring. This might not have been a reflection of what was actually happening, but simply a result of the producers casting men that fans didn’t want as the leads.

It’s not so much that Bachelor Nation didn’t want Jenn as the lead, but that they had their hopes high that Maria would take on the role. Now, Jenn’s whole season runs the risk of being compared to what Maria hypothetically would’ve done if she’d had the role instead. It’s a shame that Jenn’s groundbreaking season could be overshadowed by people wondering what could’ve been if Maria was the Bachelorette instead.

Maria Supports Jenn As The Bachelorette

Although Maria was either passed over for The Bachelorette season 21 or turned it down, she’s rooting for Jenn in the lead role. The two women are great friends, and she was very supportive when Jenn was announced as the next Bachelorette. Fans should take Maria’s lead and support Jenn as well, instead of sending hate her way like they did when Joey chose Rachel Nance over Maria after the hometown dates. The producers might not care about the fans, but the fans should care about the leads and the contestants.

Although Jenn was a terrific choice for the lead of The Bachelorette season 21, the producers’ decision came as a shock to people who expected that Maria was going to be cast. The producers obviously don’t care about what fans want to see, based on their history of casting leads for the franchise shows. Unfortunately, this could backfire on Jenn’s season, as fans might not watch because they wanted Maria instead. The Bachelor producers must do a better job of listening to what fans want, and accommodating them as much as possible, because they’re what keeps the Bachelor franchise on the air.
