As the 2024 NFL season approaches, the Dallas Cowboys find themselves with limited options at the running back position. With only Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis currently under contract, the Cowboys are in search of a starting running back, potentially eyeing the return of 2023 starter Tony Pollard or exploring other options for depth.
Pollard is set to become a free agent next week and he is reportedly open to returning to Dallas. Meanwhile, there’s speculation that he may first test the free agency market, considering offers from other teams. However, he would reportedly be willing to return for an offer that could be lower than others.

“I think Pollard played well,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said.
“He’s someone that I would have thought, looking back, that would have had more let’s say more impact for us in games we didn’t play well in.
“But that running game, of course, is a product of not only the back, but the blocking and the complete offense. When I look at him, I have done that with our coaches, and I have done that with our scouts, he played well.”
Aiming to improve ahead of next season
Despite enduring a challenging season with a career-low yards per carry average, Pollard emerged as the team’s primary running back following Ezekiel Elliott’s departure.
His versatile skill set contributed to a career-high in scrimmage yards, showcasing his value to the Cowboys’ offense.
The Cowboys, under the guidance of head coach Mike McCarthy, aim to improve their rushing performance after finishing 14th in rushing yards and 18th in yards per carry last season.
With Pollard’s uncertain future, the Cowboys face a pivotal decision in their pursuit of stability and productivity in the running game.
