‘Very fast’: £65m star wanted to join Arsenal as ‘quickly as possible’

Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz has opened up on his decision to join the Gunners from Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

The Germany international signed for the Gunners from the Blues in a deal worth £65 million and the move raised eyebrows among some fans, considering the speed at which the transfer was completed.

Speaking to Bleacher Report, Havertz said that he wanted to make the switch as quickly as possible after having some ‘amazing’ chats with sporting director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta.

He said: “I think it all had to go very fast. Think it was just (on) my holidays and then we were speaking to the guys from Arsenal and it was an opportunity to do it then so we just did it. You know the whole process was nice.”

“I had some chats with Edu and with the manager and all the chats were amazing and they gave me such good feelings. So, (I) just wanted to do it as quickly as possible and maybe that’s why it happened so fast.”

Havertz still adapting to Arsenal’s playing style

The 24-year-old has had a difficult start to his Gunners career but he is slowly but surely adapting to the playing style. Havertz made a vital contribution against Manchester City earlier this term with the assist for Gabriel Martinelli’s winner.

Against Brentford last weekend, he came off the bench to score the winner in the 89th minute. His name was loudly sang on the stands by the faithful and the German will be aiming to replicate the performance in the forthcoming matches.

The Gunners have a hectic schedule coming up. They face Lens, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Luton Town in the space of eight games. Havertz could be reinstated into the starting line-up when the former visit the Emirates on Wednesday.

Arsenal are almost into the round of 16 stage of the Champions League. A victory over the Ligue 1 outfit would guarantee their place in the knockout phase of the elite club competition with the top spot in their group. They will face PSV in matchday six.
