‘What a guy’… Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk left amazed by £35m Liverpool player yesterday

Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk have both praised Cody Gakpo on social media after his latest display for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s men picked up a convincing 4-1 win at Brentford yesterday to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League table.

There were a few injury concerns for Liverpool on the day, with the likes of Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones all forced off.

Nunez had opened to scoring for the Reds with a delightful chip in the 35th minute and despite being replaced at the midway point, Liverpool rallied to put in an exceptional second-half performance.

His replacement, Cody Gakpo, came off the bench to grab a goal and an assist.

And after an encouraging display from the Dutchman, he’s earned praise from teammates Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk.

Robertson and Van Dijk amazed by Gakpo’s latest Liverpool display

Gakpo took to Instagram after yesterday’s game to express his delight at getting back amongst the goals for Liverpool.

His teammates flocked beneath the post to congratulate him on a brilliant display.

The likes of Luis Diaz, Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota all left replies beneath the post, as well as Robertson and Van Dijk.

It’s fair to say that Gakpo has struggled to replicate the form he produced for the Reds last term.

The 24-year-old has failed to nail down a place in Klopp’s side this season, with the likes of Nunez and Jota impressing.

But with both players possibly facing a spell on the sidelines, Gakpo should get an opportunity to impress over the coming weeks and he clearly impressed both Robertson and Van Dijk yesterday.

The £35 million enjoyed a brilliant afternoon on Saturday and showed he is capable of stepping up.

Liverpool fans have already seen what Gakpo can offer after he got off to such a brilliant start to life at Anfield after joining back in January last year.
