The Golden State Warriors are likely to be active ahead of the February 8 trade deadline, though one of their possible options was officially taken off the table over the weekend.

Despite their previous interest in Toronto Raptors forward O.G. Anunoby, the Warriors were one of 28 teams on the sidelines as the New York Knicks executed a trade that included youngsters R.J. Barrett and Immanuel Quickley.

Golden State’s link to Anunoby emerged in the days prior to last season’s trade deadline, with the Athletic’s Shams Charania even reporting the franchise was a ‘serious contender’ for the two-way forward.

Now, in analyzing the Anunoby move to the Knicks with Kevin Pelton on his podcast, ESPN’s Zach Lowe has rehashed the Warriors’ intrigue in adding the 26-year-old last year.

“”They talked about Anunoby last year. I’m not sure how extensively, because people didn’t quite know what Toronto was going to do or feel that Toronto was really going to act,” Lowe said.”

After the trade deadline last season, The San Francisco Chronicle’s C.J. Holmes reported that Golden State balked at Toronto’s demands for Anunoby that would have included then second-year forward Jonathan Kuminga.

Twelve months on and Kuminga’s future may be up in the air again, along with a number of teammates as the Warriors seek to rise from their slumber before their disappointing season gets further out of hand.

Anunoby made his debut for the Knicks on New Year’s Day, proving a key contributor with 17 points, six rebounds, an assist and two steals. He was also a +19 in the Knicks’ impressive 112-106 win over the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Timberwolves.

With Anunoby no longer an option, the Warriors could turn their attention to his former teammate and two-time All-Star Pascal Siakam who is also expected to be moved before the deadline.
